1- BEFORE edit;   They sipped their drinks in silence, and Edward waited it out. He didn’t want to ask what it was about. , cClearly his father dragged him in there, so he needed to be the one to put it into words. After all, the silence was a strategy of Richard’s. He liked to make his supposed opponent stir in awkwardness, bring them to a point of stress where they felt forced to break it themselves. It was a constant mind game with the Earl, and there wasn’t always a clear point to it. As far as Edward could tell, he just liked to feel superior—even in the means of little games that the other didn’t even know they were playing, let alone the rules. 

1- AFTER edit: The two men sipped their drinks in silence. Edward refused to question the purpose of his father's unexpected discourse. The Earl had initiated the meeting, and clearly, it was his place to proceed. However, Thomas was all too familiar with his father's strategy of silently rousing awkwardness and stress within his opponents. It was a constant mind game with the Earl. Awaiting Richard's explanation, Edward was annoyed by his father's air of superiority. 

2- BEFORE edit:  He doubted he would sleep that night, or do much of anything but lie there and contemplate how to get them out of that mess. That was, when he could pierce through the veil of hatred for his father. 

2- AFTER edit:  Contemplating how to escape that mess and wondering if he could ever pierce through the veil of hatred toward his father, Edward doubted that he would sleep that night. 

3- BEFORE edit:  Sarah turned her back to Mary so that she couldn’t see the tears falling from her eyes as the woman cruelly laughed, told her to think about it, and walked away. Sarah was in hot water.

3- AFTER edit:  Telling Sarah to think about her offer and laughing cruelly, Mary walked away. Sarah turned her back in an effort to hide the tears falling from her eyes.    (( Editor's note; the term ‘in hot water’ was not practiced during the 17th century))

4- BEFORE edit:   Edward had to accept his offer of allowing her to be ‘kept’ for the time being until he figured out a solution. Never would he had thought that Sarah would heal him after wounded in battle, and he would accept her without question or fight. 

4- AFTER edit:   Edward accepted the offensive offer, but did so only with a firm resolve to quickly find a solution.  He never dreamed that it would be Sarah herself, who would change the Earl's opinion of her. After he was severely wounded in battle, it was Sarah who healed the Earl and earned his unquestionable acceptance. 

5- BEFORE edit:     Notably, the voice wasn’t booming. He had figured that the guard would want to project his voice so that it could rouse the Constable. A glimmer of hope ignited in Edward, that hopefully, it was a sign this man would be open to bribery.

5- AFTER edit:  A glimmer of hope ignited within Edward when notably, the voice wasn’t booming. Considering that a typical guard would project his voice in an effort to rouse the Constable, Edward surmised that this man was open to bribery.

6- BEFORE edit: Even with the two of them being cordial and pleasant with one another, so much of Edward's life had been rooted in being his own man that it made it impossible to foresee himself following in his father’s footsteps. 

6- AFTER edit:  Though father and son were now cordial and pleasant with one another, most of Edward's life was rooted in 'being his own man', making it impossible to foresee himself following in his father's footsteps. 

7- BEFORE edit: She understood only then what all mother’s had meant as she midwifed them that they couldn’t wait to see their child grow, but also mourned every passing moment. 

7- AFTER edit:  Only then did Sarah understand what other mothers had meant when, as she'd midwifed them, they'd said that though they couldn’t wait to see their children grow, so also did they mourn every passing moment.
